Frequently Asked Questions:

What makes your massage different?
Most people are familiar with two ends of the massage spectrum - either swedish or deep tissue massage.
Swedish is typically the light, "gliding over the skin" type of relaxation massage, where deep tissue focuses
on the muscles themselves.  Swedish usually concentrates more on the surface and deep tissue often
ignores the layers above the muscles.

I work with each layer from the skin to the bones and use my knowledge of the body's natural movement
design to effectively restore balance in the body comfortably.  Pain is reduced and movement becomes
easier.  People used to "I can take a lot of pressure -beat'em up deep tissue", are surprised to know that
I am working deep when it feels to them “like I'm not doing anything”.  Yet, they are often the ones
most astonished when pain that they have held for years is gone.  Those who usually choose swedish
because they don't want to get beat up, are surprised that such a gentle massage can be so effective.

What will my first appointment be like?
When you come in, you will fill out an intake form to outline any specific issues and determine the reason
for your session.  For this, it is recommended to arrive about 15 minutes prior to your first appointment
time.

Your privacy is respected at all times, and you will be covered with a sheet (and blanket if it's cold).
Underwear may be left on if that is more comfortable.  Only the area being worked will be uncovered,
then recovered to move to the next area of focus.  Your body's response determines the pressure,
stretching, and range of motion I use.

The boundary for my work is "hurts so good".  In my opinion, anything beyond that is uncomfortable,
unnecessary, and counter-productive.  Your only jobs while on the table are:  1) to communicate if your
are uncomfortable for ANY reason and 2) to do your best imitation of being a rag doll so you are not using
the muscles we are working with.

If you have never received a massage before, you are in for a safe, relaxing, enjoyable, beneficial and
therapeutic experience!

How long of a session do I need?
That depends upon how much is going on in your body.  The body's design is that all things are
connected.  Therefore with this type of massage, the minimum time to balance the body is an hour.  If
you have any additional areas that need specific attention, 90 minutes is HIGHLY recommended.

What can I expect afterwards?
Because the boundary is "hurts so good", generally the massage is very comfortable and a person feels
better right away.  In fact, clients often notice that the feeling continues to expand over the next 15
minutes to 24 hours as the fascia that has been cleared sets back up with new freedom of movement.
However, because everyone is unique, if a body is very restricted and/or there is a great amount of
toxins, there may be some tenderness in the concentrated area or nausea may occur.  In the rare cases
where nausea is experienced after massage, it is usually a result of the liver processing significant toxins
that have been released into the blood stream.

How often is massage recommended?
The minimum frequency to maintain any continuity of the benefits of massage is once a month.  If you
have a high-stress lifestyle, every two or three weeks might be needed.  If you have a high-stress life
style with little exercise, poor diet, and no meditation or use your body in how you make your living; once
a week could not be too often.

Based on what your body tells me, I will give you my professional recommendation.  In any case, you get
to decide what works for you and I will support you in that choice.

If you have a chronic issue that you have been living with for months or years, please know that it may
take more than a session or two to restore your body's balance.  The most successful approach in my
experience, is initially to schedule appointments close together to more quickly "remind" the body of to
what real "normal" tension can be.  As the body starts to clear and hold normal tension for longer period
of time, appointments can be spaced further apart until you get to your determined schedule that works
best for your body and your  lifestyle.
